Commercial water damage creates two problems at once: the building must be stabilised while the organisation protects people, stock, equipment and business continuity. A clear response plan reduces confusion and gives the restoration team the information needed to prioritise work.
Stabilise the site
- Isolate electrical and slip hazards
- Stop or isolate the source when safe
- Protect unaffected stock, documents and equipment
- Control access to contaminated or unstable areas
- Nominate one authorised site contact
Prioritise business-critical zones
Not every area has the same operational value. Identify server rooms, stock areas, customer access, essential equipment, tenancy boundaries and spaces required to reopen. Restoration sequencing can then support safe partial operations where feasible.
Document the loss and the response
- Room and asset photographs
- Moisture mapping and affected-material notes
- Equipment placement and monitoring records
- Daily access, safety and progress notes
- Records of disposal, cleaning and handover
Plan for after-hours monitoring
Commercial drying can run outside business hours. Confirm power availability, security, noise constraints, access windows and who can respond if equipment is moved or switched off.
